Woven Bracelet with Locket Clasp, 1850-59 (71.149.1)

One of a pair, this incredible braided hair bracelet also features a miniature image within a locket clasp. The gold locket is decorated with an engraving of a house and contains a picture of young woman. Although this bracelet is highly personalized, it was probably not custom-made. The clasp was one of the many hair jewelry components that were mass-produced due to high demand for mourning jewelry. This bracelet also features a safety chain.
