Captain Ebenezer Parsons, d. 1744

Captain Ebenezer Parsons, d. 1744

Captain Ebenezer Parsons: Here is Buried the Body of CAPTAIN EBENEZER PARSONS who Died July the 1st 1744 IN y 69th year of his AGE. This stone exhibits a later version of the winged death's head, which seems less ominous than the death's heads of before. The face is skull shaped, but with the round eyes, mouth in a slight smile, and detailed wings it seems that this may be an early transition to the cherub form. Above the skull is what appears to be a halo, which could signify that this indeed is a cherub, or it could be a simple version of a crown of righteousness and represent mortality. On the sides of the stone are growing flowers and vines, which represent rebirth.
