Jonathan Phelps

Jonathan Phelps

Mr. Jonathan Phelps This stone shows one of the earliest versions of the cherub. Highly simplified it only has a face without any other detail other than eyes, nose and mouth. Behind it are either highly simplified wings or an engulfing halo. Around the halo are designs of small circles and a swirling line, typical of the first decorations on gravestones in America. It may be that this swirl is a crown of righteousness, but it is most likely just decorative.
