A collection of slide photographs of downtown Northampton including architectural details of Main Street commercial buildings and buildings of the Smith College campus photographed by Harvey J. Born in East Lansing, Michigan on November 30, 1916, Harvey Finison moved to Northampton in 1962. He worked at the Northampton Cutlery Company at 320 Riverside Drive beginning in 1963. Finison served as president and general manager of the company until the closing of the 115-year business in April 1986. Finison received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Michigan State University in 1939 and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago in 1941. Prior to coming to Northampton, Finison worked with the General Electric Company and joined the Armour Research Foundation in Chicago in 1949, where he became a manager in electrical engineering research. He then became director of engineering and executive vice president for operations at Holtzer-Cabot in Boston. He also worked for Raytheon as general manager for their semiconductor division and later as director of business planning and development of the electric components and devices group. Harvey Finison passed away June 14, 1987. The slide photographs were donated to Historic Northampton by his wife, Myrtle Van Aken Finison (1916-2010).
